Decisions, decisions......

Someone hasn't been keeping up with their blog.......

Hypothetical situation:

Two students are in the same class. Both are seniors and have applied to colleges that require passing your class.

Student A has consistently performed to the best of his ability but unfortunately cannot get higher than a 50% on tests. Student A attends tutor sessions, does all his homework, asks questions in class, and has a strong work ethic. Because of his hard work, he's averaging a 58% overall in the class (tests account for a large part of the grade).

Student B has a very weak work ethic. Homework is rarely completed. Attendance and tardies are a problem. Student B sleeps during class and comes to class unprepared. However his test scores are 65% . But because he has terrible work habits, he also is averaging a 58% in the class.

Who do you think (if any) is going to pass?

Guess who got their id card today? Now it's official. I owe Touro some money.....I better get to work now..

Scenario #1

Student: When will we ever have to use this stuff?

Teacher: Never, you should be content in the idea that everything we do in this class is pointless and carries no relevancy towards what you plan to do in life. Your best bet is to drop out and find someone that's willing to hire someone with your limited abilities and start contributing towards social security so that people that have taken the time to learn something will have something to retire on.

Scenario #2

Student: When will we ever have to use this stuff?

Teacher: Unless your going to be a teacher or continue going to school, never. However, what this class does for you is not limited to formulas and theorems, it is a chance for you to train yourself in the art of learning. The ability to learn is innate and is something that has to be developed. If you are content with what you've aquired and the rate at which you aquired it then there's nothing left to be said. But, if your curious about testing the limits of your ability to absorb, analyze, organize, and hypothesize, then let's see what today's lesson is.

Scenario #3

Student: When will we ever have to use this stuff?

Teacher: What stuff?

You tell me Scenario 4...........

How do you tell when it's been a while since you've been on a certain site? When you can't remember the password to the site.

This has been a very busy month. A wedding, a funeral, rehab, powerschool,.....but enough of that. What shall we talk about?

I can't remember how old I was, but I was able to sit on my grandmothers lap. We were attending a funeral and I was voicing my opinion on my mandatory attendance of a function where I wasn't socially related to the guest of honor. In fact, the deceased wasn't even directly related.

I quickly found out that my opinion should never be spoken aloud. Not while an elder still had the ability to "lay" hands on me. I also had the opportunity to hear my grandmother say something that has stayed with me up to this day. She said that we're not here for the dead. The dead doesn't care if we show up to these things. We're here for the living. All these people around us noticed that we showed up. It's out of respect for the living people that we attend, not the dead.

It may not seem like much but that exchange has gone a long way to affect my perspective on things. There are many ways to see a situation. Is graduation for the graduate, or is it for all those who have invested into the student? Is a wedding for the bride and groom, or is it for the friends and family that saw the inevitability of a union?

No Worries

Somewhere in the world today a person died alone.
Somewhere in the world today someone is going without eating..again.
Somewhere in the world today someone is trying to find a warm place to sleep for the night.
Somwhere in the world today a child is being abused.
Somewhere in the world today someone just lost their job.
I can't believe the amount of work that I have to do...but I'm not going to worry about it.
Not today.

When I'm done doing whatever it is that I'm supposed to do, I'm going to build the window that belongs to this view. My mother grew up on this mountain. The cove in the picture is the village of Masefau in American Samoa. My grandmother was raised in the village and moved up to the mountain side after she married. The hillside is covered with fruits and vegetables. The pinapples were the size of watermelons. Anything you stuck in the ground would start growing. We (the family) have land both up on the mountain and down in the village, so I'm going to end up somewhere in this picture.....

Am I writing this with the understanding that other people are going to be reading it? And if that's the case, will what I put down be what I truly believe or will it be what I want others to believe about me?
What should I share that would provide the most information about myself? I could tell you about my job but it changes from day to day. I could tell you about my life, but it's not finished yet. I could tell you about my hopes but I bet they're the same as yours. Should I tell you about my dreams?....nah, that would require me waking up.
What would you like to know that I haven't told you already?

...Everything that has ever been written, has been read at least once.....

First Time

I have no idea what to put here, and because of that I'm able to write this short note.
